So what makes rustic interior design so appealing? Well, to me it's the culmination of that beautiful southern aesthetic that loves the finer things in life, with just a little bit of 'the farm' around the edges. I can remember growing up in southern Georgia and living in a very traditional, southern antebellum home. We had a music room, a wrap around porch, more rocking chairs than you could ever sit in and Chantilly silver to boot. However, when it came to the more intimate parts of our home design, it was the beautifully rough-hewn fireplace, 100 year old brick used to build the house and the special accessories that brought the outdoors indoors.
It was during these formative years that I began to understand the connection of the words rustic elegance. Whether it was the sumptuous layers of color and texture, the 150 year old hand-hewn mill floors in my aunt's Atlanta mansion or the insistence that we always have natural garland for Christmas it all came together in me to inform my artwork. Now I work with clients who fully embrace this idea of rustic elegance in their homes. Some are very traditional and some are very modern but all love that touch of nature coming inside. They embrace fine interior design, beautiful traditional furniture and artwork but at the same time want a little whimsy that really defines the southern elegance of living in the country. It's a little like Architectural Digest, Mountain Living, House Beautiful, Southern Living and Garden & Gun all rolled up into one. Luckily, people are now beginning to rediscover the beauty of baskets as a rustic design accessory in their homes but in a reimagined way. Sculptural Art Baskets in Rustic Decor To me, beautiful interior design is all about the details. It's about the nuances of a room, the little surprises that meet you around every turn and how they all work together to support the overall design of a space. Using handcrafted, sculptural art baskets, unlike any other sculptural medium can accentuate the rustic elegance of your mountain or lake house while bringing the beauty of nature indoors. Sculptural art baskets aren't functional containers to hold your magazines. They go way beyond that. They push the lines between form and function, beauty and purpose. In fact, the purpose is the beauty. The beauty of a finely crafted sculptural basket or setting of multiple baskets nestled within laurel branches is unmatched by anything manmade. Rather, these baskets are more uncovered and assembled than simply created. The come to life in your home and bring the essence of the natural world inside. When they live with you, they bring the serenity of nature into your world. With them, life is good. When working with an artist like me to include sculpture art baskets in your home, keep in mind that I can create custom work specifically for your design needs or you can come to my studio gallery and purchase right off the shelf. In either instance, I'd be happy to help you incorporate my work into your rustic home decor. Find out more about commissioning a piece for your home here. |
