Who is Matt Tommey?

Matt Tommey is a world-class artist and teacher working in East Texas.  Since the mid-1990's, Matt's been creating woven sculptures using basketry techniques for his clients that reflect the rustic elegance of nature.

Matt's online basket weaving classes have helped thousands of students around the world learn to enjoy the craft of basket weaving.

These days, Matt's woven art is featured in some of the most beautiful mountain and coastal homes in the country and is created exclusively from locally harvested bark, vines and branches. Over the years, Matt has been featured in many print and online publications including Garden & Gun, Martha Stewart's American Made Awards and Our State. In 2011 he was recognized as an "American Artist Under 40" by the Smithsonian American Art Museum's Renwick Gallery.

Although Matt started in functional basketry many years ago, he has since focused his basketry work on woven sculpture. Matt sees basketry as a language of creativity to be explored and used to express beauty rather than simply a set of traditional forms and techniques.
