Copper Leaf Ornaments
I started making copper kudzu leaves many years ago as a beautiful signature accent for some of my Appalachian collection baskets. Over the years, however many of my clients asked if I would make the copper leaf ornaments as a stand alone item and finally I gave in! Even though they make beautiful holiday ornaments, these hand-hammered copper leaves are beautiful all year round and truly one of a kind.
How I make Copper Leaf Ornaments
All the copper I use for making my copper leaves is recycled copper that used to be old gutters, flashing or industrial copper. After harvesting the material from the local recycling shop, I cut out the leaf shape and then anneal each leaf, which means to change the molecular structure by heating it until red hot. After quenching the leaf in water, I'm then able to start the hammering process. Each leaf is hand-hammered individually using a traditional repousse technique. Once competed, I then do a rough polish, solder the stem, finish polish and then add the kudzu fiber bow as a finishing touch.
If you love unique leaf ornaments then this one is surely one to add to you collection! Hang it on a door, a wall, on a tree or just as an accent on a tabletop. Wherever it finds a home, it's sure to bring you much joy into your space.
