Basket Weaving Classes

Matt Tommey has been teaching basket weaving classes for almost as long as he's been making baskets - since the early 1990's. He offers classes for both beginning and more experienced basketmakers. No matter your skill level, every student leaves with a completed basket.

Matt also teaches classes at the John C. Campbell Folk School and Arrowmont School of Arts & Crafts.

1-Day Workshop

This workshop is an introduction to natural materials basket weaving and includes basic techniques in harvesting, materials preparation and weaving using Appalachian style rib construction.

Timeframe: 10am - 4pm

Cost: $125/per student includes class, resource handout and materials.

Class Size: 8 student minimum, 12 student maximum

2-Day Workshop

This workshop is a 2-day intensive in natural materials basket weaving and includes basic techniques in harvesting, materials preparation and weaving using Appalachian style rib construction. If possible (based on class location and availability), part of the class is actually harvesting materials in a nearby wooded area.

Timeframe: 10am - 4pm each day

Cost: $195/per student includes class, resource handout and materials.

Class Size: 8 student minimum, 12 student maximum
